We long to be a people who exalt God by rejoicing in Him, loving Him, trusting Him, and obeying Him.
We especially seek to love Him and love our neighbor through,
WORD, COVENANT, and HEART.
WORD, God’s word, the Bible. We believe the Bible. We seek to interpret it correctly. We seek to be “doers of the Word and not hearers only.”
We long to see God’s wisdom advanced over man’s wisdom through the Bible being taught, known, and followed.
We love music, art, film, theater but we are committed to learning and teaching the written word. God chose to reveal Himself through the written word. “Word” is such an important concept that Jesus is even called the Word (John 1:1). Observing Neil Postman’s distinction between a word based culture vs an image based culture in his book, “Amusing Ourselves to Death,” we seek to advance word. Through the written and spoken word, we can move beyond appearance and seek a deeper knowing.
COVENANT, the New Covenant and the marriage covenant. God is a covenant making and covenant keeping God. At the heart of solid, enduring relationships between God and people and between people and people are covenants.
We long for God to use us to advance the good news of the New Covenant and to use us to advance and help build and maintain the, “death til us part” marriage covenant between one man and one woman.
HEART, as 1 Samuel 16:7 says, we look at the outer appearance, but God looks at the heart.
We long to see hearts transformed, made good, through the gospel.
We long to see hearts healed, made whole, through the gospel.”
We are a small congregation. We look to the Lord to do big things in us and through us. Come grow with us.
Our church began in 1868 as a daughter church of Walnut Street Baptist Church. Our sanctuary was built in 1931. We enjoy an affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention.
