About Us

About Us

Franklin Street Baptist Church enjoys a rich heritage of gospel ministry in Louisville’s historic Butchertown neighborhood. Our congregation began in 1868 as a daughter church of Walnut Street Baptist Church and our current sanctuary was completed in 1931. We enjoy an affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Kentucky Baptist Convention, and the Louisville Regional Baptist Association.

Our church’s foundation is the Lord Jesus Christ, who guides his church in all affairs through the Holy Scriptures. Therefore the purpose of Franklin Street Baptist Church is to glorify God through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Our church’s ministry priorities flow from the vision of God’s glory revealed in Jesus Christ. We exist to savor this vision in worship, strengthen this vision in nurture, and spread this vision in evangelism, missions, and loving deeds. We seek to be part of what Jesus is doing that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God.

In order to remain true to our Lord and his word, this church must be marked by preaching the whole counsel of God, administering baptism and the Lord’s Supper, loving one another, and practicing formative and corrective discipline.
